If you have worked in an EU country, you can use your contribution periods to claim unemployment benefits in other countries of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

The information on contribution periods will be exchanged mainly electronically between the institutions and there is no obligation for migrant workers to submit the PD U1 but the institution processing the claim for unemployment benefits must request the necessary information through the electronic exchange of data (EESSI) with the competent institution of the country where the contributions were made.

In the case of the United Kingdom, given that the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom of December 24, 2020, allows periods contributed in the United Kingdom or another Member State of the European Union to be used for access to unemployment benefits, the information on the periods contributed will also be carried out mainly through electronic exchange between institutions (See Information on Brexit).
