Is Azure DNS is the same as domain registrar?

Domain and hosting in azure

You cannot use Azure DNS to purchase a domain name. For an annual fee, you can purchase a domain name using App Service domains or a third-party domain name registrar. Domains can then be hosted in Azure DNS for record management. For more information, see Delegating a domain to Azure DNS.

Azure DNS DNS domains are hosted on Azure’s global network of DNS name servers. Azure DNS uses proximity broadcast networks. The closest available DNS server answers each DNS query to provide better performance and high availability for the domain.

Azure DNS does not currently support DNSSEC. In most cases, the need for DNSSEC can be systematically reduced by using HTTPS/TLS in your applications. If DNSSEC is a fundamental requirement for your DNS zones, you can host these zones at third-party DNS hosting providers.

Azure DNS can manage DNS records for Azure services and also provides domain name service for external resources. Azure DNS is integrated into Azure Portal and uses the same credentials, billing, and support contract as other Azure services.

What are the Azure DNS?

Azure DNS is a hosting service for DNS domains that provides name resolution using Microsoft Azure infrastructure. By hosting domains on Azure, you can manage DNS records with the same credentials, APIs, tools and billing as with other Azure services.

What is a DNS zone?

A DNS zone is a part of the DNS namespace that is managed by a specific organization or administrator. The DNS zone is an administrative space that allows more granular control of DNS components, such as authoritative name servers.

To resolve records in a virtual network’s private DNS zone, you must bind the virtual network to the zone. Linked virtual networks have full access and can resolve all DNS records that are published in the private zone. You can also enable automatic registration on a virtual network link. When you enable automatic registration on a virtual network link, DNS records for virtual machines in that virtual network will be registered in the private zone. When automatic registration is enabled, Azure DNS also updates the zone records whenever a virtual machine is created, its IP address changes, or it is deleted.

What is DNS AdGuard?

AdGuard is a line of applications for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS operating systems, which allows you to block ads, pop-ups, banners and other unwanted elements on websites.

What is a search area?

The forward lookup zone resolves host names to IP addresses and hosts the common resource records: A, CNAME, SRV, MX, SOA, TXT and NS. The reverse lookup zone resolves an IP address to a domain name, and hosts the SOA, NS and PTR records.

The domain name system is a hierarchy of domains. The hierarchy starts with the “root” domain, whose name is simply “.”. After it are the top-level domains, namely “com”, “net”, “org”, “uk” or “jp”. This is followed by the second-level domains, such as “” or “”. The domains are globally distributed, hosted by DNS name servers around the world.

Azure DNS provides a globally distributed, highly available name server infrastructure that can be used to host the domain. By hosting domains on Azure DNS, you can manage DNS records with the same credentials, API interfaces, tools, billing, and technical support as with other Azure services.

Azure DNS does not currently support domain name acquisition. If you wish to purchase a domain, you must use a third-party domain name registrar. The registrar typically charges a small annual fee. Domains can be hosted in Azure DNS for DNS record management. See Delegating a domain to Azure DNS for more information.

What is DNS and what is it for?

DNS is a technology based on a distributed database that serves precisely to translate these domain names in networks. That is, to know the IP address of the machine where the service we want to access is hosted.

Many DNS providers such as WordPress or some Microsoft services, use dynamic DNS, for which they only provide the Hostname but not the IP associated with that Hostname, allowing an Internet domain name to connect to a server without the need to know what IP address it has at that moment, since the IP address is changing.

Some Registration Authorities (the authorities that create and promote the use of a given domain, such as ESNIC, for example), have quite strict rules about the nameservers that can be assigned to the domain, and failure to comply with these rules may result in the cancellation of the domain.

DNS is the acronym for “Domain Name Service”. It is a specific encoding system that makes it possible to transform a domain name into a numerical IP address. It is therefore the way to locate on the Internet the machine (computer) to which a given registered domain refers.
