Is Sri Lanka a subcontinent?

Colombo, sri lanka

A coastal belt about 30 m high surrounds the interior. Most of it consists of sandy beaches dotted with coastal lagoons. On the Jaffna peninsula, limestone exposed to the waves forms low cliffs in places. In the northeast and southwest where the coast cuts across the stratification of crystalline rocks, cliffs, bays and islands are found. These conditions have given rise to the beautiful harbors of Trincomalee on the northeast coast and Galle on the southwest coast.

The highest dam, 122 m, gives rise to the Victoria Reservoir, 209 km from the mouth of the Mahaweli Ganga River; the dam is 122 m high and 520 m long, impounds 700 million m³, forms a 23 km² lake and produces 210 MW. An ambitious project is underway to rehabilitate old dams[3] and build new ones in the dry zone to irrigate 365,000 ha under the name of the Mahaweli Development Programme[4] The project covers 39% of the island and 55% of the Dry Zone. It includes a dozen dams that would also generate a total of 671 MW.

My two daughters and I have just returned from Sri Lanka. Thanks to the good comments and opinions of travelers, I contacted him. I planned the trip via WhatsApp, receiving advice and keeping in constant communication.

Sisira went to wait for us with the biggest smile at the airport. He is a very good professional guide, humble, kind, friendly, nice, helpful, cordial and very funny. He is very knowledgeable about his country, its customs, nature and history. He explained a lot about Buddhism, traditions and attractive places. Always joking. He became one of our family, he took care of us like no one else. In short, a truly wonderful professional and human being. Always ready to help you in everything. Whatever we asked him, he took it as a challenge!

The Indian subcontinent is the name for a portion of Asia that includes the countries south of the Himalayas.    It mainly consists of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, which are the countries of origin of many Raval citizens. It also includes Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

In order to learn more about these countries and get closer to their culture, the center of interest of the Indian subcontinent was created, a collection of books and audiovisuals within the library’s collection. In the guide Fons de literatura de Pakistan, Índia i Bangladesh we have selected the most outstanding narrative and poetry written by authors from these countries.    We recommend, for a first approach, the most outstanding authors from India: Anita Nair, Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, V. S. Naipaul and Vikram Seth. From Pakistan we highlight Hamid Mohsin, Nadeem Aslam and Mohammed Hanif. And from Bengali culture, Tahmima Anam, Monica Ali and the great poet Rabindranath Tagore.
