Doom slayer name

The protagonist of the Doom saga is the main character of Doom and its sequels, who does not have a known name, (in English he is called “Doomguy”, something like “the boy of Doom”). In Doom 3 it is the player who decides his name; although he is always simply called “marine” by the rest of the characters, he doesn’t necessarily have to be the same character in all the games, although he always looks similar.

The introduction of “jump” and “duck” controls in source ports such as ZDoom and Skulltag seems to squash the widespread rumors of the 1990s that the Doom marine was a paraplegic who transports himself in a rocket-powered wheelchair.

In Doom 3, the Marine is right-handed, with all weapons appearing on the right side of the screen. This may be due to the fact that most shooters have right-handed players, and introducing a left-handed character might have disoriented players.

In the Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil expansion pack the main character is a different Marine, also unnamed. This Marine is a combat engineer, and is therefore trained to operate a remote manipulation device known as the Levitator. He has shaved black hair, wears blue armor, and appears to be somewhat older than the one in Doom 3, based on his heavily weathered facial features.

What we all suspected is now official: the ‘Wolfenstein’ saga and the ‘DOOM’ series take place in the same universe and in different times. What’s more, the heroes of three of iD Software’s early series have family ties, including the colorful ‘Commander Keen’ platformer.

Michael Kim: There is a theory that Blaskowitz is Keen’s father and that Keen – in turn – is the father of the guy from ‘Doom’. Something that was later confirmed in the ‘DOOM RPG’ series, but I need confirmation from the legends himself.

A terse but forceful answer: the official canon of the universe devised by iD Software took shape, although Hall left in the air the existence of a fourth generation. A piece that we did not count on in this puzzle and that the legendary John Romero put on the table.

One of his sons, Billy Blaze, would inherit the name of the legendary Nazi exterminator and also a certain predisposition to save humanity through his alter ego Commander Keen. In time, Billy would end up being the father of the Doom Slayer.

The Doom Slayer (also known by the UAC as DM1-5, Doom Marine or the Slayer; and named by the demons of Hell as Unchained Predator or Hell Walker) is the protagonist and playable character in Doom (2016), Quake Champions and in Doom Eternal.

He is a former warrior who was either banished to Hell or decided to stay there (possibly a reference to the ending of Doom 64), where he was captured by demonic forces and sealed in a tomb of volcanic rock. He was later recovered by the BAU who held him “captive” for study until the infernal hordes invade the base; he then escapes armed only with a pistol and his exoskeleton called the Praetor Suit.

The game strongly suggests (but never states with certainty) that this version of the protagonist has some relation to, or may even be, the same protagonist who appeared in the original series. Elements of his backstory, such as the option to remain in Hell, the destruction of the Titans, and fighting demons at various times across large dimensions and expanses of time, suggest a possible unification between the different evolutionary lines. This, however, has been left intentionally vague and open to interpretation. It is possible that future updates will reveal more about their history.

The DOOM saga is special in its artwork: its locations and enemies look like something out of horror fantasy literature, B-movie genre films and heavy metal album covers. DOOM Slayer was a real challenge in every aspect. We felt that the thing to do was to keep the original look of the DOOM Slayer (2016), while giving it a different feel. In the end we took inspiration from Heavy Metal (the 1981 animated film), the original DOOM and other iconic sources to create the look of DOOM Eternal’s Slayer. One thing I love about working at id Software is that we’re not afraid to jump in and take risks when we feel the result is worth the effort.

Slayer reminds me a lot of the revenant. I like to imagine that they are cousins. This was the first time we tried putting a snake body on a character, and at first I didn’t know how the whole thing was going to look. However, it helped us a lot to have Hell Possession and Heavy Metal as inspiration. Now there’s no doubt that it fits our game while still being eye-catching.
