Change of seasons

The following table shows the starting dates, duration and tilt of the Earth’s axis of the four astronomical seasons. The climatic seasons, on the other hand, are usually counted in whole months, starting from the first day of the month in which the corresponding astronomical season begins.

While the Earth moves with the axis of the North Pole tilted towards the Sun, the axis of the South Pole is tilted in the opposite direction and the northern regions receive more solar radiation than the southern regions. Subsequently, this process is reversed and the northern hemisphere areas receive less heat, as the days become shorter and the sun’s rays fall at a steeper angle.

At the equinoxes, the Earth’s axis of rotation is perpendicular to the Sun’s rays, which fall vertically on the equator. At solstices, the Earth’s axis is tilted by 23.5º, so the sun’s rays fall vertically on the tropic of Cancer (summer in the northern hemisphere) or Capricorn (summer in the southern hemisphere).

Which countries have 2 seasons?

The different seasons

For millions of people living in countries such as Colombia, Brazil, the Congo, the Maldives and Indonesia, autumn is a concept that appears in textbooks but that they have never seen personally.

Which countries have the 4 seasons?

In the northern hemisphere, where I live, this happens in the middle latitudes and in areas of oceanic influence it is usually even more marked. On the Atlantic coasts of Europe (mainly Portugal, Spain, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands) until a few years ago the seasons were clearly differentiated.

What are the 5 seasons of the year?

Spring, summer, autumn, winter: the country that has a “fifth season”.

Seasons of the year southern hemisphere

On the Atlantic Coast from November to March; in the highlands of the Cordilleras, in the Cauca Valley and high valleys of Magdalena from June to September and from December to March; in the Amazon and Pacific regions there is no dry season.

Each season has precise climatic characteristics influenced by the position of the Earth’s orbit with respect to the Sun, so the temperature of each one is variable, ranging from cold to hot. Let’s see what are the characteristics of each of them and when they occur in the different hemispheres.

The spring season has a cool climate with relatively cold nights and sunny days. In this season the days lengthen a little with respect to the winter and the temperatures begin to rise, the days are warmer.

Winter is a season in which low temperatures and snow predominate in those countries close to the poles of the earth and whose altitude with respect to the sea is higher. During this season the days are shorter than the nights.

Why does Colombia have no stations?

What are the stations in Colombia? Colombia is located very close to the equator, its climate is predominantly tropical. For this reason, it does not have seasons, but two climatic periods that can be distinguished: the wet or rainy season and the dry season.

Why aren’t there four seasons at the equator?

The equator is located on the equatorial line or 0º parallel. For this reason, there are no four seasons as in other latitudes of the planet. Instead, two periods can be distinguished: summer (dry season) and winter (wet season).

The 4 seasons of the year when they begin and when they end

The summer solstice occurs because the Earth passes through the point in its orbit around the Sun where the star is most opposite our hemisphere. The rays of the star thus strike more directly, heating the ground more.

These phenomena are made possible by the fact that our planet orbits at an inclination of about 23.5º on its axis.  If this were not the case, every day would be equinoxes – night and day would last the same length – and there would be no seasons. The approach or departure of the Earth due to the eccentricity of its orbit would not produce sufficient changes for high temperature variations.  In fact, in the northern hemisphere summer the planet is farther away from the star.

The warmth and leisure time that summer brings with it encourages us to enjoy the nights more, even though they are shorter. Also in astronomical terms. The new season will allow us to witness in August the famous Perseids star shower or the star formation known as the Summer Triangle.

Which countries do not have 4 seasons?

Although Colombia does not have the four seasons of the year, winter, summer, autumn and spring, there are rainy and dry seasons. Colombia is located in the northwestern corner of South America.

It has two different accesses: one of them is the Puerta de Atocha, where you can access the 15 tracks that serve most of Renfe’s Long Distance, Medium Distance and AVE trains. The other access serves Renfe’s medium distance trains and Renfe’s Cercanías trains, on floor -1.

The Jardín Tropical de Atocha is a botanical garden with an impressive greenhouse of about 4,000 square meters with tropical and subtropical plants of 260 species. This large green space was created to inaugurate the arrival of the high-speed train or AVE at Atocha station. The tropical botanical garden is located on the ground floor and is accessible from the entrances of Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, Calle Méndez Álvaro and Paseo de la Infanta Isabel.

Numerous AVE and other high-speed trains arrive and depart from Atocha station every day. Some popular AVE routes are the one from Madrid to Barcelona, which arrives in only about 2.5 hours, exactly the same average travel time from Atocha to Seville Santa Justa station.
