Iberdrola has increased the composition of the executive committee of its British subsidiary Scottish Power from seven to nine with the entry of two well-known Scottish executives, bringing local representation to one third of the decision-making body.
One of the two new additions is Tom Farmer, founder in 1971 of the Scottish car maintenance chain Kwik-Fit, which was sold in 1999 to Ford for more than 1 billion euros. The ‘Scotsman’ and ‘Herald’ newspapers describe him as “one of Scotland’s best-known entrepreneurs”.
The other new executive is Gus Macdonald, who has chaired the Scottish Media group and has served as Scottish Minister for Finance and Industry, among others. Both Farmer and Macdonald previously served on Scottish Power’s local advisory board.
Iberdrola, which has reached an agreement with GDF Suez and Scotland’s SSE to participate in British nuclear projects, had already recently strengthened Scottish Power’s board with the appointment of Nick Horler as CEO and the incorporation of the new director of the international area, Amparo Moraleda.
