It then copies itself to the Windows file system as another file of the type known as a “dll”. It gives itself a name of between 5 and 8 characters, and modifies the registry, which lists key Windows settings to run the infected dll file as a service.

Once running, the worm creates an HTTP server, changes the computer’s system restore point (making it more difficult to recover the infected system) and then downloads files from the hacker’s website.

Technicians have managed to reverse the worm, so they can predict some of the possible domain names. This does not help them find out who is responsible for creating Downadup, but at least it lets them know how many machines are infected.

Knowing who you are talking to online can be tricky. Whether it’s trying to figure out the identity of someone sending dodgy emails or to see where a website’s server is located, being able to reveal the identity or location of messages you receive is a good skill to learn.

In Gmail, the process is probably the simplest. To do this, go to Gmail and open the email in question. On the right side, next to the Reply button, you will see a down arrow icon. Click this, then select Show original from the list.

Of course, if you want to prevent people from using these same processes to discover your data, read our How to hide your IP address for simple ways to protect your anonymity.

The Internet is a truly powerful tool that can be used in a variety of ways by users all over the world, from information gathering, communication, entertainment or even education.

For example, some content providers (such as BBC iPlayer) only serve their content to IP addresses from a particular location (e.g. the UK), which means that all IP addresses that are not located there will be blocked.

Unlocator supports the unblocking of some 220 streaming channels from around the world. These include Sky Go, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, BeIN Sports, HBO Go, ABC GO and many others. You can try their services via the 7-day free trial.

Not all methods are created equal. Some solutions we have offered are free (although there are some security issues and drawbacks on your side), while others need an affordable subscription.

We are avid users of VPN services, and recommend ExpressVPN and NordVPN. Not only do they provide a wide variety of servers, but they also protect your online privacy through deep data encryption.
