Example of government policy

When speaking about the groups of people who participate politically, basically two systems of classification are established, depending on whether they are based on the level or type of participation:

However, it is not possible to dissociate this classification by the level and type of participation of each individual or of the collectives from the factors or motives that push to the taking of that movement and, consequently, of the beginning of political participation.

Faced with the concept of democracy, we find two normative theories and two different approaches to the relationship between citizen participation and democracy. On the one hand, we find one that affirms that the greater the participation, the greater the democracy, and another that affirms the opposite.

On the other hand, the school of participatory democracy defended, following Rousseau’s idea, that in order to continue on the road to democratization, mechanisms of political participation should be strengthened to facilitate the power and control exercised by citizens over those who govern, as well as the strengthening of communication channels between them, something easier to carry out today given the existing technological infrastructures.

Examples of public policy

Politics is everything, we can say that the minimum unit for politics to exist is two people. That is to say, if two people relate to each other, there is already politics. This arose with the purpose of mediating between the conflicts experienced by individuals in a community.

What are these conflicts due to? Because each human being is particular, has his own concerns, his particular way of seeing life and how it should be approached, and whether the members of a community should (or should not) help each other.

All this leads to inequality in the wealth and resources that citizens possess. Ultimately, it is because each of the individuals who make up a community have different attitudes and aptitudes.

That is why politics is born, to mediate between the conflicts that are happening between the people who make up a given community. We have answered why conflicts arise, but not how they are resolved.

Crude or not, the reality is that they are solved by force, coercion and threat. To ensure a more equitable distribution of resources, the community that has been formed (be it a state, a region, a municipality or an indigenous tribe) establishes rules that must be respected and obeyed by all.
